Hello to all!

This is just a quick note to wish you all a Merry Xmas, a Happy New Year and to bring you up-to-date with our plans for 2008.

In 2008 we will be implementing an on-line database of composers works replete with sound samples, videos and details on how to obtain scores. Stay tuned for that!!

Also in 2008, we will be adding a history component to the website which will include a history of Tasmanian music - sourced from the work of various generous music academics and writers - and a database of academic titles and citations to assist researchers and students in furthering their knowledge of Tasmanian music.

Also, we have just implemented a search function on the site - so please visit us and have a browse! http://www.tasmanianmusic.com

The Tasmanian Composers Collective has been awarded a grant from the Foundation for Young Australians for the development of a new internet site and to assist in developing new initiatives for young and emerging composers. As part of the grant TCC Director Mr. Matthew Dewey has been awarded some funds to assist in an International Arts Mentorship with Artistic Director of IHOS Opera, Mr. Constantine Koukias. As part of the Mentorship Mr Dewey and Mr Koukias will visit Japan, Europe and America to promote Tasmanian Music, to research international arts initiatives and to establish contacts for future composer opportunities.

Work is underway for the continued growth and development of the Tasmanian Composers Collective, with funding being actively sought for the construction of a new website. An excellent core team has been put together to manage and facilitate the development of the new site including Matthew Dewey (Composer), Carolyn Philpott (Musicologist), Stephen Reid (IT Specialist) and Robert Rule (Event and Production Management). They are being supported and advised by many industry professionals (including Artistic Director of IHOS Music Theatre and Opera Constantine Koukias), and will be working in close consultation with a focus group consisting of young, emerging and established Tasmanian composers.

The new site will provide a portal for the General Public to access works, performances and recordings of living Tasmanian composers. The site will aim:
- To provide a service to the general public listing biographical information and contact details;
- To provide a comprehensive what's on guide listing when events featuring the works of Tasmanian Composers occur;
- Give the opportunity to join an e-mail list to receive monthly news and special updates on new music events;
- To have an official history (somewhere in-order of 5,000 to 10,000 words) of classical music and composers in Tasmania and links to relevant resources published on the site + a database of essays and publications about Tasmanian composers and music;
- To provide an on-line bill-board for discussion of issues relevant to Tasmanian Composers.
